Pupils at Birchensale take part in lots of extra-curricular sport, including friendly games with other schools in the area, tournaments, District, County and National competitions. Below are examples of Birchensale’s recent sporting success:
Athletics
Our current year 6 & 7 pupils had huge successes in their rearranged athletics competition, which was unfortunately cancelled last year. 2 Students won bronze medals in the 600m and vortex throw, 5 silver medals were won for 80m, 150m, 1200m, long jump and high jump, as well as 4 gold medals for pupils in the 150m, 600m, long jump and high. We also had success with both of our girl’s relay teams, with the Year 6 girls finishing 1st and the year 7s coming 2nd.
Overall Birchensale finished 1st as a team, gaining more points overall than any other school in the district. A huge congratulations to all students involved.
Badminton
Birchensale was represented at the County Badminton Finals. It was a great achievement to reach the finals and the girls managed to finish 4th in the whole of Worcestershire!
Cross Country
Four pupils qualified for the County Cross Country competition this year.
National Junior Indoor Rowing Competition
Hockey
The Year 5 & 6 team took part in the District Hockey Competition and finished as District Runners Up.
Well done to the Year 8 Boys, who also finished as Runners Up in the District Competition. Congratulations to the Year 8 Girls, who are District Winners!
Boccia
KS2 and 3 pupils represented Birchensale at a Boccia Tournament at St Bede’s Catholic Middle School and the KS3 boys came 1st overall!
Boccia is a precision ball sport, similar to bocce, and related to bowls and pétanque. The name “boccia” is derived from the Latin word for “boss” – bottia.

Netball
The Year 7 and Year 5 Girls teams both took part in the District Netball Competition and both finished as Runners Up. Well done to the Year 8 Yellow team who were 4th in the district. Congratulations to the Year 8 Blue team, who were also District Runners Up.
Rugby
Well done to the pupils in Years 6, 7 and 8 who took part in the Year 7 & 8 District Rugby Competition

Basketball
